In memoriam Henk van Stel
09 August 2018
We received the terrible news that our colleague Henk van Stel was killed in a fatal accident during his holidays in France. The news of his death has caught us unawares and pains us enormously.
Henk had been working as health researcher at the Julius Center since 2002. His research mainly targeted the quality of care and the implementation of healthcare innovations. Henk had a lot of experience with the development and validation of Patient Reported Outcomes (PROMs) and other questionnaires in areas such as natal care, youth healthcare and emergency care.
As senior lecturer of the study programs Clinical Health Sciences and Medicine he coordinated the Research and Implementation course and mentored many students in their graduation research within the Master's program Nursing Science. He was an enthusiastic and passionate lecturer and very popular with his students.
Since the summer of 2016, Henk was closely involved in the establishment of THINC. The Healthcare Innovation Center. With his broad knowledge of evaluation and implementation methods and his pragmatic approach, he advised several start-ups on setting up and performing implementation scans.
In his role at Julius Support for Research & Trials, Henk assisted many UMC Utrecht employees with their research questions on implementation and efficiency research.
Henk was a true all-rounder, versatile and always willing to help his colleagues. His co-workers at the Julius Center and the Education Center will miss his expertise, good fellowship and humor tremendously.
We wish his wife Elsie, his sons Artos and Taran, and his family and friends strength in this difficult time.
