Sander van Doorn studied medicine at the VUmc Free University in Amsterdam. After graduating as a MD in 2008, he worked as a resident in Cardiology at Medisch Centrum Alkmaar - the Netherlands, and as a resident in Psychiatry at Arkin, Amsterdam - the Netherlands. He started his vocational training in General Practice in 2010 at the Julius Center of the UMCU, Utrecht - the Netherlands. Since 2014 he works as a (registered) General Practioner in Gezondheidscentrum Maarssenbroek.
Since June 2012, Sander van Doorn works as a PhD student, conducting research on risk prediction in Atrial Fibrillation. Using a cluster randomised trial, he aims to validate the CHA2DS2-VASc clinical prediction rule in Dutch primary care, as well as measure its impact in the prevention of stroke. This research is supervised by Prof. dr. Carl Moons and Prof. dr. Arno Hoes.
