Extension of Global Health PhD Scholarship Program
The University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht)’s board of directors approved the extension of the Global Health Support PhD program.
The Global Health PhD Scholarship program started in 2011 with the ambition to enable highly talented health professionals from low- and middle-income countries to obtain a PhD at Utrecht University. In addition, the program aims to support capacity building in, and research collaboration between PhD students’ home institutions and the UMC Utrecht.
17 PhD scholarships since 2011
A total of 17 PhD students have been admitted to the program since 2011.
Scholarship recipients have come from Indonesia, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Chad, China, Malaysia and Suriname. Over 55 papers have been co-authored since the program’s inception. Nearly all (6 out of 7) of scholarship holders who enrolled between 2011/12 successfully defended their PhD by 2016
