Health Innovation
Health Technology Assessment refers to the interdisciplinary evaluation of new developments in healthcare and medicine. The Healthcare Innovation department performs health technology assessments (HTA) and economic evaluations of medical interventions in the broadest sense (e.g. medication, surgery, diagnostics, public health) in all disease areas. The relevance of HTA increases and will continue to do so in the near future. Members of the department are actively involved in:
- economic evaluation and technology assessment, both alongside clinical trials and model-based evaluations;
- methodological research;
- research advice and support, e.g. of clinicians who plan to perform economic evaluation or quality of life research;
- educational activities, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Education
Health Technology Assessment refers to the interdisciplinary evaluation of new developments in healthcare and medicine. The Health Technology Assessment department performs health technology assessments (HTA) and economic evaluations of medical interventions in the broadest sense (e.g. medication, surgery, diagnostics, public health) in all disease areas. The relevance of HTA increases and will continue to do so in the near future, as health care expenditure continues to increase. Members of the department participate in or are responsible for various educational activities:
- lectures on health economics for undergraduate students (e.g. 5e jaars blok Geneeskunde&Maatschappij);
- lecture on health economics in BROK course for clinical investigators;
- one week postgraduate MSc course on Methodology in Health Economic Evaluation;
- other postgraduate courses (e.g. Economic Principles and Concepts for the Veterinary Sciences; Applied Economic Modelling for the Veterinary Sciences);
- occasional participation in miscellaneous undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Research
The research of the department of Healthcare Innovation is both of applied and of methodological character. The department performs economic evaluations (both alongside clinical trials as modelling studies) in cooperation with clinical researchers and epidemiologists and research aimed at development and improvement of methods for health technology assessment and health services research.
