Delegation of Afar University visits WKZ
26 September 2017
On Tuesday 26 September, a delegation of Afar University, Ethiopia with an interest in Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care training visited the Wilhelmina Child Hospital (WKZ).
The delegation was accompanied by Christina de Vries, Senior Health Expert at Cordaid and Gert-Jan Temming, managing consultant at CINOP Global. They were hosted by drs. Mirjam Kleinhout, fellow neonatology, and dr. Marcus Rijken, fellow obstetrics. The Ethiopian university staff members received a taster of UMC Utrechts/WKZ's approach to training in maternal and neonatal emergencies and well organized clinical departments.
They were guided through the WKZ birth centre, where a neonatal resuscitation scenario was demonstrated. This lead to a fruitful afternoon with interesting discussions and questions.
The visit aimed to explore if a collaboration between the WKZ birth center, Cordaid, and CINOP Global could contribute to improve practical training activities at Afar University.
